Ceasefire Breakthrough: India-Pakistan Tensions Eased

  • India conducts missile strikes in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, eliminating 100 terrorists.
  • PM Modi holds high-level security meeting with key officials, including NSA Doval and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • Ceasefire agreement reached but violations reported, with DGMO talks set to address ongoing tensions.

India launched a series of targeted missile strikes under Operation Sindoor. This resulted in the elimination of 100 terrorists, including key figures involved in the Pulwama attack and the IC-814 hijacking.

Despite the ceasefire agreement reached on May 10, tensions remain high. There are reports of Pakistan violating the agreement shortly after it was announced.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire Tested Amidst Ongoing Border Tensions

The Indian Armed Forces launched a series of targeted strikes under Operation Sindoor. They decimated nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The strikes were executed over a span of three days and neutralized 100 terrorists. These included high-value targets such as Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed. The operation was a retaliatory measure against the April 22 Pahalgam attack. In that attack, 26 individuals, mostly tourists, were killed.

In response to the escalating hostilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security meeting. He met with top defence and security officials, including NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The meeting focused on evaluating the impact of the strikes and planning further measures. These are aimed at maintaining regional stability. Discussions also centered on the upcoming DGMO-level talks between India and Pakistan to address ceasefire violations.

The ceasefire agreement, effective from 5 pm on May 10, was marred by reported violations from the Pakistani side within hours of its implementation. While both nations have publicly committed to halting all military actions on land, air, and sea, the situation remains tense. There have been observations of intermittent shelling and drone activity in border regions.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed his intention to mediate the Kashmir issue. He offered to facilitate dialogue between India and Pakistan. President Trump emphasized the potential for increased trade with both countries. He hinted at a broader diplomatic initiative to foster regional stability.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, the situation along the LoC remains fragile. Both sides maintain heightened military readiness as DGMO-level talks approach.

“The calm after the storm is a temporary illusion; the winds of uncertainty still blow across the border.”
