The districts of Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Peerkankaranai, and Perungalathur Chengelpet have been most severely affected by the flooding and traffic congestion brought on by Tamil Nadu‘s heavy rains.

In addition to issuing an orange alert for 25 districts on November 29 evening, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted significant rainfall for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on December 2—3. The anticipated cyclone warning has prompted the NDRF teams in Arakkonam town to go on standby.

Cyclone warning

In light of the heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and other northern coastal regions of the state, the collector of Tiruvallur declared that all schools and colleges in the district will be closed on November 30.

For November 30, the IMD forecast calls for moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and rain over the districts of Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Slipper Nagapattinam, and Thiruvarur, as well as Puducherry and the Karaikal area.

Owing to intense rains in the state, IMD has decided to postpone the ‘En Mann En Makkal’ (My Land, My People) yatra until December 5. The updated itinerary will be released as soon as possible.

The Pada Yatra will resume on December 6. Following a period of intense rainfall, Puzhal Lake in Thiruvallur released about 389 cusecs of water.
