Various meals and beverages that contain aspartame may cause cancer

Many people have switched to artificial sweeteners because sugar has been linked to weight gain and health problems.

Artificial sweeteners, however, have been connected to cancer and are less healthful than conventional sugar. A common sweetener called aspartame is being investigated for possible cancer-causing properties.

Aspartame may Cause Cancer

Although it is used in smaller amounts, aspartame is 200 times sweeter than conventional sugar and is found in low-calorie meals and beverages.

Aspartame will soon be classified by the World Health Organisation as possibly carcinogenic to humans, which means it may lead to cancer.

The World Health Organisation has previously issued warnings against the use of non-sugar sweeteners (NSS), claiming that doing so can assist people manage their weight or lower their risk of developing non-communicable diseases.

The long-term benefits of substituting NSS for free sugars were emphasized by Francesco Branca, WHO Director for Nutrition and Food Safety. Instead, individuals should think about consuming fruit, which has naturally occurring sugars, or unsweetened foods and beverages.

According to the WHO, acesulfame K, aspartame, advantame, cyclamates, neotame, saccharin, sucralose, stevia, and stevia derivatives are among the popular artificial sweeteners that should be avoided.
