Sitaare Zameen Par Opens Strong with ₹11.7 Crore

  • Sitaare Zameen Par collects ₹11.7 crore on Day 1 across India.
  • Marks Aamir Khan’s return after 3 years; directed by RS Prasanna.
  • Strong audience response, especially for emotional storytelling and debut child actors.

Aamir Khan’s much-awaited comeback film Sitaare Zameen Par opened to a strong box office collection of ₹11.7 crore on its first day. While not record-breaking by Aamir’s past standards, the film has outperformed most other 2025 Bollywood releases and registered healthy occupancy, especially in multiplexes.

Unlike the intensely introspective Taare Zameen Par, this film takes a more uplifting, sports-driven approach as it follows the journey of a basketball coach and his team of neurodivergent kids.

Sitaare Zameen Par: Aamir Khan Scores with Heartfelt Drama and Solid Opening

Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is a Hindi adaptation of the Spanish film Champions and tells the story of a coach guiding a group of neurodivergent children in sports. Aamir Khan, who also produced the film, returns to the screen after a three-year hiatus following Laal Singh Chaddha.

The film earned ₹11.7 crore on its opening day, with ₹11.5 crore from the Hindi version alone, and smaller contributions from the Tamil and Telugu dubs. This makes it one of the highest openers of 2025, surpassing not just Laal Singh Chaddha, but also several recent big-budget films.

Audiences have highlighted the emotional ending and positive message, calling it a “family-friendly and meaningful film.” Though comparisons with Taare Zameen Par are inevitable, viewers seem to appreciate Sitaare Zameen Par for its own merits and contemporary storytelling.

The film’s release affected the box office of other titles like Housefull 5, which saw a steep decline on Friday. With strong word-of-mouth and rising weekend buzz, the film is poised for a solid first weekend performance.

Sitaare Zameen Par may not match the legacy of Taare Zameen Par, but its compassionate narrative and inclusive casting have made it a box office and audience winner.

“Cinema has the power to create empathy and awareness, and that’s what we aimed to do with this film.” – Aamir Khan (during the film’s press meet)
