Actor Zara Patel’s edited video became popular on social media, igniting conversations about online safety. In the video, a woman identified as Zara Patel was seen riding an elevator while sporting a black fitness onesie.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) was used to alter her face so that it resembled Mandanna. Investigators got to work on the case, tracking down every IP address that the video was posted from.
Following a notification from the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to the city police, the Delhi Police filed a formal complaint (FIR) against unnamed individuals about the matter.
The actress in the video, Rashmika Rao, stated her discomfort with its dissemination and the terror it instills in people. The Indian government has been outspoken in its response to these cases, reminding social media companies in two letters of their legal obligation to filter out false material and deepfakes.
Concerning the exploitation of AI to create “deepfakes,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the media may help spread awareness of this situation. He mentioned that he hadn’t done garba since schooldays, but he had seen a video of himself doing it recently.
