Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the BGS Medical College and Hospital, along with the new Adichunchanagiri University campus, in Nagarur, Bengaluru.

India’s Healthcare Capacity Doubles: Amit Shah Hails ₹200-Crore Medical Hub in Bengaluru

At a ceremony attended by Swami Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, Union Minister Amit Shah lit the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate BGS Medical College and Hospital, constructed on a sprawling 17-acre campus. The facility, part of Adichunchanagiri University, includes a 20,000 sq. ft. academic block and a fully equipped hospital.

Shah commended the institution’s design, which not only emphasizes quality education but also ensures healthcare services reach economically weaker sections. He highlighted that both education and medical care at the facility are made accessible through subsidized models.

During his address, Shah contextualized this development within a larger national framework, noting that medical education in India has seen exponential growth under the Modi government. He underlined how doubling the number of MBBS and PG graduates has significantly strengthened India’s healthcare manpower.

He also recalled Prime Minister Modi’s early advocacy for affordable healthcare, asserting that the PM’s long-standing belief that poverty is linked to illness has directly shaped national policy. “That vision is now visible in institutions like this one,” Shah said, expressing confidence that it would become one of India’s leading medical centres.

With its focus on both advanced medical education and compassionate care for the underserved, the newly inaugurated BGS Medical College and Hospital reflects India’s growing commitment to inclusive healthcare infrastructure.

“Twenty-six years ago, Prime Minister said poverty stems from illness and illness stems from the high cost of treatment… Today, he has fulfilled that promise.” – Amit Shah
