Abu Dhabi Schools Tighten Standards with New Ethics Policy

  • ADEK bans 22 unprofessional behaviors to ensure respect, safety, and inclusivity in schools.
  • Guidelines cover respect for culture, digital conduct, and community protection.
  • Strict penalties aim to maintain professional standards for educators.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has raised the bar for professional conduct in schools with a new ethics policy that prohibits 22 specific behaviors.

Educators are now held to six core standards, including respect for Emirati values, ethical digital practices, and legal compliance. These changes aim to create a safer, more inclusive environment for students and staff.

Building a Culture of Integrity in Abu Dhabi Schools

By addressing issues such as discrimination, abuse, and misuse of digital platforms, ADEK ensures that educators act as role models. The policy also encourages teamwork and transparency among colleagues while emphasizing the importance of adhering to local laws and cultural norms. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to safeguarding the educational community.

The standards extend beyond interpersonal conduct, addressing digital activities and legal responsibilities. Prohibiting unauthorized private tutoring and the misuse of work devices reflects ADEK’s effort to uphold professionalism in every aspect of an educator’s role.

Community protection is a central theme of the guidelines. Educators are required to report any witnessed abuse, ensuring that schools are safe spaces for all students. The policy further discourages any fraudulent activities, including unauthorized crowdfunding.

By setting clear boundaries and expectations, ADEK not only supports student well-being but also strengthens the integrity and trust within the education system. The initiative promises a positive impact on the broader school community.

This policy reflects Abu Dhabi’s vision of education as a cornerstone of societal progress, where respect, safety, and professionalism go hand in hand.

“Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” — C.S. Lewis.
