Nissan’s Japan division is experimenting with metaverse auto sales, and the company has registered four new Web3-related trademarks in the US.
According to trademark applications Nissan submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on March 7, the most recent files contain the Infiniti, Nismo, and Nissan brands.

According to Nissan’s filings with the USPTO, it wants to create a market for trading and minting NFTs as well as virtual clothing, cars, toys, headgear, tickets, and trading cards.
The petition claims that non-downloadable computer software that can be used as a digital wallet is also in the works. Nissan Japan announced on March 8 that its virtual store Nissan Hype Lab, where customers may learn about, consult with, test drive, and purchase Nissan vehicles while in the metaverse, will be operating a three-month demonstration experiment.

According to the statement, customers can execute purchase agreements and submit automobile orders through this virtual sales office. In October 2022, Nissan also submitted five trademark applications for some of its most well-known automotive models, including the SKYLINE, Z, and GTR.
According to trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, the car brand’s filings at the time suggested intentions for NFT-backed media, online NFT marketplaces, digital wallets, and NFT minting, trading, and storing software.
General Motors, the world‘s largest automaker, has also been quite active with NFT-related registrations, having filed its most recent trademark applications on February 16 covering its Chevrolet and Cadillac trademarks.
American automaker Ford Motor Company filed 19 trademark applications across its primary auto brands in September to prepare for entering the NFT and Metaverse.
Despite the protracted crypto winter and bear market, multinational companies continue to submit trademark applications for Web3, crypto, nonfungible tokens (NFTs), and the Metaverse. Kondoudis claims that 2022 witnessed a record-breaking number of trademark applications for things connected to NFTs, the Metaverse, and cryptocurrencies.
