After the conclusion of search and rescue efforts, severe rains battered southern China, causing fatal floods and jeopardizing the livelihoods of tens of millions of people. Over 110,000 people have had to relocate as a result of widespread flooding in Guangdong province, a major economic center with 127 million residents.

In Guangdong, at least four individuals have died as a result of flooding. The Pearl River Delta, China’s manufacturing hub and one of the country’s most populous regions, has been severely damaged by torrential rains since April 16.

Extreme weather events will become more frequent and deadly as a result of the climate catastrophe, scientists warn. Strong storms and prolonged periods of heavy rain are predicted by the China Meteorological Administration to last until the end of the month.
