According to the report, the bus, which was carrying 51 people, crashed into the inside wall of the tunnel. In a different report, the state news agency Xinhua verified the number of people killed and injured, although it withheld information regarding the degree of the survivors’ injuries.

According to Xinhua, the incident’s cause is currently being looked into. China has a high rate of traffic accidents because there are lax safety regulations.

In February of last year, a pile-up in central Hunan province resulted in sixteen fatalities and numerous injuries. The previous month, a traffic accident in the eastern province of Jiangxi caused 19 fatalities and 20 injuries.
