The Seoul Songpa Police have charged a Japanese woman in her 50s with sexual harassment. She forcibly kissed BTS member Jin at a fan event in June 2024.

Despite being summoned in February 2025, the woman initially failed to cooperate with authorities. However, she later returned to South Korea and voluntarily appeared before the police.

BTS’ Jin Assaulted by Fan During Hug Event, Charges Filed Against Suspect

The aftermath of BTS member Jin’s military discharge took a disturbing turn. A Japanese fan in her 50s forcibly kissed him during a fan meet-and-greet event in Seoul. The incident, which occurred in June 2024, was captured on video. The footage showed Jin turning his face away in discomfort as the woman attempted to kiss his neck. It went viral, sparking outrage among fans worldwide. The woman later wrote about the incident on her blog, describing Jin’s skin as “soft.” This further intensified the backlash.

The fan event was intended to celebrate Jin’s return to civilian life. 1,000 fans were chosen to receive a hug from the star. However, the event took a dark turn when two women allegedly attempted to kiss the K-pop star without consent. While one of the women has since surrendered to South Korean authorities, the second remains unaccounted for.

The Songpa Police launched a formal investigation in February 2025. This was after a fan filed a criminal complaint. The Japanese woman initially resisted cooperating but later returned to South Korea voluntarily to face charges. South Korean law defines sexual harassment in public spaces as a serious offense. Potential penalties include imprisonment or hefty fines.

As the case unfolds, BTS’ agency, HYBE, has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Fans have taken to social media, expressing their concern for Jin. They are calling for stricter security measures at fan events to prevent such incidents from recurring.

The incident underscores the vulnerability of celebrities to fan misconduct. It highlights the urgent need for stricter security protocols at public events involving high-profile figures.

“Respecting personal boundaries is crucial, regardless of one’s fame or public persona.”
