For the World Archery Field Championships in September 2024, the archery team from Northern Alberta, Rene Schaub, hopes to break a world record. Jamie Sturges, the club’s president, believes that the region has a long history of producing spectacular artifacts, including nine of the largest things in the world.

Earlier this year, a team of four workers at Savailin Enterprises, a welding and fabrication firm in Lac La Biche, put a 24-meter-long arrow together over the course of seven days. The arrow’s length, including the fletching, is 80 feet and 1 3/8 inches.

Largest arrow in the world

According to Schaub’s research, the world’s biggest arrow is believed to be the one found in Lac La Biche, which is 15 meters long. It won’t be recognized by Guinness World Records though just yet. It must be fired from a bow for it to be considered an actual arrow.

There is no current champion of the “largest bow and arrow,” which Guinness is keeping an eye on. A minimum height of six meters is required for the record-holder to be eligible to hold the title. These are only observed for record titles like this one if the object will be instantly recognizable and able to be used like a regular-sized object.

The arrow might be identified as a sculpture like Glendon’s pyrogy or Vilna’s mushrooms by Schaub and his collaborators. He is debating firing his enormous arrow, which looks impossible, but he won’t back down. Sturges is willing to participate: “I was like, ‘OK, so now we’re building a bow, I guess.'” Because it was a team effort, the accomplishment is still delicious for Schaub.

The project was spearheaded by a former archery student, Savailin offered their time to manufacture the arrow, A nearby auto business gave them the aluminum pipe they used to make the arrow’s shaft, and even the paint was given away.

From September 16 to September 22, 2024 will see the World Archery Field Championships. The club can hold a world event thanks to the community‘s efforts in organizing the occasion.
