To build AI data centers in France, Microsoft has committed €4 billion

The largest-ever investment made by Microsoft and Amazon in France since its founding 41 years ago, the two companies have pledged to invest billions in the nation’s technology infrastructure.

Since its founding 41 years ago, Microsoft has made the largest investment in France to date with a pledge of €4 billion to build data centers in the nation.

AI data centers

France’s “longstanding commitment to carbon-free energy markets” and its position as a “critical leader” in Europe are recognized as reasons for the investment, which intends to expand the company’s artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure in France. Over 3,000 jobs are anticipated to be created by Amazon’s commitment to invest over €1.2 billion in France’s IT infrastructure.

The money will mostly be used to improve the cloud infrastructure and generative artificial intelligence of Amazon Web Services, along with the parcel delivery service’s logistical infrastructure.

By the end of 2024, Amazon intends to have 24,000 employees working in France, mostly in its logistics facilities. AstraZeneca and Pfizer were among the pharmaceutical corporations that declared their intention to invest more than one billion euros in the French health industry when the Choose France Summit was being organized.

A possible fertilizer factory by the European partnership FertigHy is the greatest industrial proposal that has been made public so far and can drastically cut carbon dioxide emissions.
