The biggest capital investment in Indiana history, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has revealed plans to invest an estimated $11 billion in the state, generating at least 1,000 new employees.
Amazon plans to construct new data centers in St. Joseph County with the backing of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) and Governor Eric Holcomb. In addition, AWS will provide up to $7 million to help the state and the neighborhood around the company’s proposed development with road infrastructure upgrades.

As part of its ongoing commitment to Indiana, Amazon has made long-term investments totaling $21.5 billion since 2010, boosting the state’s GDP by $19.8 billion. This latest investment is part of that commitment. 26,000 full- and part-time jobs have been generated in the state by Amazon’s investments.
Enabling four solar farms and a wind farm with a combined capacity of over 600 megawatts of renewable energy—enough to power about 146,000 homes—is another example of AWS’s commitment to Indiana.
Through its nationwide infrastructure investments, AWS is committed to serving its clients and promoting digital transformation. With this anticipated $11 billion investment, the company is thrilled to be developing its operations in Indiana. It will also provide a huge boost to the state’s economy by generating a large number of well-paying employment opportunities and connecting with the state’s booming tech sector.
To further its commitment to empowering local communities, AWS established the AWS InCommunities St. Joseph County Community Fund, a grant program that will support projects centered around six major themes: inclusion, diversity, and equity; sustainability and environment; economic development; future workforce development; science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) education; and homelessness, hunger, health, and well-being.
AWS will also establish a fund to assist K–12 educational systems with a carefully selected collection of STEAM awareness and learning opportunities. This grant will help put initiatives like We Build it Better into action. This program offers resources and experiences from the industry that involve middle school and older kids in a STEAM environment that is akin to a workplace and is furnished with tools of the highest caliber.
