According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there were 49,449 suicides in the United States in 2022, up 2.6% from 48,183 in 2021.
Adults 65 and older experienced the greatest growth, with an 8.1% increase from 2021. The age range of 45 to 64 saw the second-highest increase, at 6.6%.

Although it was still few in comparison to other age groups, the number of suicides among people aged 25 to 44 also climbed.
Researchers also discovered a rise in male and female suicides, with increases of 2.3% and 2.8%, respectively. Except for Indian Americans and Alaska Natives, most racial and ethnic groups had an increase.
Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders experienced the most growth at 15.9% in 2022, but mixed Americans also experienced a decline of 8.4%.
To address the problem, the CDC has underlined the necessity of swift action and has urged anyone in need to call the 988 Suicide & Problem Lifeline.
Nine out of ten Americans, according to Health & Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, believe that there is a mental health crisis in the country, and the most recent data on suicide deaths supports this belief.
