The companies said on Wednesday that Shell Plc (SHEL.L) will boost offshore oil production with artificial intelligence-based solutions from SparkCognition.
The largest oil producer in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Shell, will handle and analyze vast amounts of seismic data using AI algorithms from SparkCognition.
Deep Sea Oil Exploration
Gabriel Guerra, Shell’s vice president of innovation and performance, said in a statement that the company is “committed to finding new and innovative ways to reinvent our exploration ways of working.”
Enhancing operational effectiveness and speed will increase production and exploration success. The new method, according to the firms, can cut explorations from nine months to less than nine.

According to Bruce Porter, chief science officer for SparkCognition, an Austin, Texas-based company, “generative AI algorithms can disrupt the exploration process in a positive way and have wide-ranging effects.”
The businesses claimed that the technology will aid in deep sea preservation by producing subsurface images with fewer seismic data scans than usual. Utilizing sound waves, seismic technology probes the subsurface.
