From Madame Web to Razzie: Dakota Johnson’s New Chapter

  • Sandra Bullock sent Dakota Johnson a warm, funny message after her Razzie win.
  • Johnson spoke on Amy Poehler’s podcast about how film roles often evolve beyond her control.
  • She responded to the Madame Web backlash with humor rather than regret.

Dakota Johnson received an unexpected message of solidarity after her Madame Web Razzie win—from none other than Sandra Bullock. Bullock, who infamously won both a Razzie and an Oscar in 2010, sent a voice note welcoming Johnson to the “Razzie Club” and joking about starting a monthly brunch.

In her conversation with Amy Poehler, Johnson also opened up about the difficult reality of making big studio films. She described how scripts can drastically change during production, often leaving actors feeling disconnected from the final product.

We Should Have Monthly Brunch”: Sandra Bullock Comforts Dakota Johnson After Razzie Win

When Dakota Johnson won the 2025 Razzie for Worst Actress for Madame Web, she didn’t expect it to come with an invitation from Sandra Bullock. Speaking on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, Johnson revealed that Bullock sent her a voice message congratulating her on joining the “Razzie Club” and suggesting they bond over brunch. Johnson was overjoyed, calling the moment “crazy” and expressing deep admiration for Bullock.

Sandra Bullock is no stranger to the Razzies herself. In 2010, she received two: Worst Actress and Worst Onscreen Couple for All About Steve—just a day before winning an Oscar for The Blind Side. Her ability to take the highs and lows of Hollywood with grace inspired Johnson, who found humor in her own recent flop.

Johnson also spoke candidly about the challenges of acting in a film like Madame Web. She noted that many elements of the movie changed after she signed on, making it a different project than she initially agreed to. This lack of control is something she says most actors face—except perhaps megastars like Tom Cruise.

Rather than wallow in disappointment, Johnson has chosen to embrace the absurdity of the situation. “What am I going to do, fucking cry about Madame Web? No. I’m gonna laugh,” she said, signaling her refusal to let a single misfire define her career. She also joked about the Razzies not having an in-person ceremony—though she would’ve enjoyed giving an over-the-top acceptance speech.

With Sandra Bullock’s support and her own sharp humor, Dakota Johnson is taking the Madame Web backlash in stride—proving that even flops can lead to surprising friendships.
