PM Modi Celebrated with Sri Lanka’s Highest Honor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the prestigious Mithra Vibhushana—Sri Lanka’s highest civilian honour—by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The ceremony was held in Colombo.

During the visit, India and Sri Lanka signed ten major agreements. These covered defence cooperation, electric grid connectivity, a Trincomalee energy hub, and more.

India and Sri Lanka Deepen Strategic Ties During PM Modi’s Colombo Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka was marked by a strong display of regional camaraderie. He was awarded the ‘Mithra Vibhushana’ medal. This gesture by Sri Lanka underscored the mutual respect and growing diplomatic synergy between the two nations.

Highlighting his ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and the SAGAR vision, PM Modi reiterated India’s special focus on Sri Lanka. This was particularly in times of economic distress. He praised the country’s resilience and affirmed India’s commitment to its recovery and stability.

A major takeaway from the visit was the signing of ten cooperation agreements. These ranged from critical defence and energy partnerships to healthcare, digital infrastructure, and the laying of groundwork for the Sampur power project in Trincomalee.

PM Modi also addressed the importance of inclusive development in Sri Lanka, voicing support for the Tamil community’s aspirations. He emphasized that India’s and Sri Lanka’s security and prosperity are interlinked, calling for sustained collaboration.

PM Modi’s Colombo visit not only celebrated a personal honour but also strengthened India-Sri Lanka ties across strategic, cultural, and humanitarian dimensions. This reinforced India’s role as a steadfast regional partner.
