US Targets al-Qaeda-Affiliated Leader in Syria Airstrike

A senior finance and logistics official of Hurras al-Din, an al-Qaeda affiliate, was killed in a US precision airstrike on February 15 in Northwest Syria. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the strike, emphasizing that it was part of continued counterterrorism efforts to eliminate threats against the United States, its allies, and regional partners.

President Donald Trump applauded the success of the mission, commending US forces for delivering justice to another terrorist operative. CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Kurilla reiterated that the US remains committed to targeting and dismantling terrorist networks that pose a risk to global security.

The operation is part of an ongoing strategy to weaken al-Qaeda’s influence in Syria, particularly within Hurras al-Din, which the US designated a terrorist organization in 2019. The group has been responsible for multiple attacks and has maintained connections with al-Qaeda’s broader operations in the region.

The latest strike follows a similar US-led attack on January 30, which resulted in the death of Muhammad Salah al-Zabir, another senior Hurras al-Din operative. CENTCOM has emphasized that these operations will continue to disrupt terrorist planning and logistics, reducing their ability to carry out attacks.

The US remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate terrorist threats, with CENTCOM reaffirming its commitment to counterterrorism operations that protect both American and allied interests.

“We will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorists in order to defend our homeland, and US, allied, and partner personnel in the region.” — Gen. Michael Kurilla
