Apple AirTag 2: Expected Upgrades and Features Coming in 2025

  • Improved Range & New Chip: AirTag 2 will feature a better range and a more advanced wireless chip.
  • Privacy Enhancements: Apple may remove the speaker to prevent stalking.
  • Find My Sharing Update: New functionality lets users share lost item locations across ecosystems.

Apple’s AirTag 2, scheduled for release in mid-2025, will include significant upgrades such as an improved tracking range and a new wireless chip, which will enhance the device’s overall performance.

In addition to the performance upgrades, Apple plans to enhance privacy by potentially removing the speaker from the AirTag. This move addresses concerns about the device being misused for stalking, a problem that surfaced after the original AirTag’s launch.

AirTag 2 to Include Privacy Features and Performance Boost in 2025

Apple is gearing up to launch the AirTag 2 in mid-2025, bringing several important updates to the popular tracking device. One of the key changes will be a boosted range, allowing the AirTag 2 to track items over longer distances. This improvement will be coupled with a new wireless chip that enhances performance and connectivity, ensuring more reliable tracking in various environments.

Privacy is another area Apple is addressing with AirTag 2. The company is considering removing the speaker from the device to reduce its misuse in stalking activities. This change could help alleviate some of the concerns that emerged with the first generation, which was found to be vulnerable to such misuse.

Alongside AirTag 2, Apple is rumored to be unveiling a new smart home command center, which could compete with products like Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Hub. This smart hub will likely integrate with the AirTag 2 and the expanded Find My functionality, offering users an upgraded home experience.

The new Find My feature, introduced with iOS 18.2, will also play a key role in AirTag 2’s launch. It allows users to share the location of lost items with people outside Apple’s ecosystem, making it easier for authorities or friends to help track down misplaced items. The shared link will automatically expire after one week or once the item is recovered.

With the AirTag 2, Apple is continuing to refine its location-tracking device, adding both performance upgrades and privacy-focused features. These changes will enhance the user experience while addressing security concerns.

“Apple is reportedly working on upgrades to the AirTag 2, including new privacy features aimed at reducing misuse for stalking.”
