Government Scholarships Now Open for Application: Key Schemes and Deadlines

  • Applications are open for the National Means-cum-Merit and Central Sector scholarships.
  • Both scholarships support economically disadvantaged students from Class 9 to postgrad.
  • Eligible students must apply by October 31, 2024, through the National Scholarship Portal.

The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) has officially opened applications for the 2024-2025 academic year. Among the central government-sponsored scholarships, the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) assists students from Class 9 through Class 12 in public and government-aided schools.

This scholarship provides Rs 12,000 per year to help prevent secondary school dropouts among students whose parents earn less than Rs 3,50,000 annually.

Scholarships for 2024-2025: Financial Aid for Secondary and Higher Education Students

Another significant offering, the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships for College and University Students, supports students who have excelled in their Class 12 exams and plan to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate studies. This scheme provides financial relief for students from families earning less than Rs 4.5 lakh per annum, with 50% of scholarships reserved for female students. This scholarship aims to offset the rising costs of higher education for students enrolled in recognized institutions across India.

The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships offers substantial support for students from low-income families who excelled in Class 12 and are enrolled in higher education programs. With up to 82,000 new scholarships annually, the program aims to cover expenses for a wide range of fields, from undergraduate to professional degrees. A distinctive feature of this scheme is its commitment to gender equity, reserving half of the scholarships for female students, empowering young women to pursue their academic aspirations.

Both scholarships share a common goal: to empower financially disadvantaged students to achieve academic success. The NSP ensures a streamlined application process and helps raise awareness about these valuable resources for families needing financial support.
