After 22 years of play, Brazilian international and football legend Marta has declared her retirement from the game. Marta, a.k.a. “Queen Marta,” is a well-known female football player who owns multiple records.

Among them is the record for the most goals scored at a World Cup, whether it be women’s or men’s, with 17 goals scored in 23 appearances throughout six editions.

With 116 goals in 175 games, she also holds the record for most goals scored for Brazil. If she gets chosen for the Brazilian team, Marta, who is now a player for the Orlando Pride in the National Women‘s Soccer League in the USA, intends to compete in her sixth Olympics in Paris.

She said that there would be no more Marta after 2025 and that this would be her final season as an athlete with the national team. Marta believes that the next generation of Brazilian football players will succeed, even though the squad did not perform well in the most recent Women’s World Cup.

Marta feels optimistic about the future and is at ease with the way young athletes are progressing. She is the winner of three Copa America Femenina championships and competed for Brazil in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where they took home silver and bronze respectively.
