The UN is now pleading for $2.8 billion to assist 3 million Palestinians

  • The UN has made a $2.8 billion appeal to help 3 million Palestinians, emphasizing the need for basic facilities in Gaza.

The UN has made a $2.8 billion appeal to help 3 million Palestinians, emphasizing the need for food, water, sanitation, and medical facilities in Gaza’s war-torn area.

U.N. humanitarian office chief for Gaza and the West Bank Andrea De Domenico said that “massive operations” are needed to restore essential services and fulfill basic requirements, something that cannot be accomplished during military operations. He cited the devastation of homes, roads, schools, hospitals, and water and sanitation systems. He also mentioned that there isn’t a single university left in Gaza.

Humanitarian Aid

The main hospital in Gaza, Shifa Hospital, had to close due to the devastation caused by Israel’s recently concluded second major military operation.

According to De Domenico, his team has been working with “a scene of terror” at the hospital, where colleagues from the United Nations and Palestine are assisting individuals in attempting to identify family members based on clothing or shoes on “the remnants of corpses.”

Following the April 1 drone strikes that claimed the lives of seven aid workers from the World Central Kitchen, Israel has promised to enhance the flow of supplies into Gaza.

Over 33,800 people have died and extensive destruction has resulted from the Israeli offensive in Gaza, which was intended to eliminate Hamas, according to Palestinian health professionals.

The biggest hazard, according to De Domenico, is that Israel’s “good intention” to help Gaza is demonstrated by the opening of bakeries and a north-north border. But the United Nations continues to press Israel to take greater action, citing Israeli refusals and hold-ups in responding to calls for humanitarian convoys to reach Gaza.
