The busiest international airport in the world is Dubai International

  • DXB has maintained its position as the busiest international airport in the world for international travel.
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is still the busiest airport for passengers.
  • The airports in New Delhi and Istanbul continue to be among the best, showing notable improvement over 2019.

The tentative list of the world’s ten busiest airports for 2023, released by Airports Council International (ACI), shows notable changes brought about by the rebound in international air traffic.

For the tenth consecutive year, Dubai International (DXB) has maintained its position as the busiest international airport in the world for international travel. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, recognized the accomplishment and expressed satisfaction in maintaining the airport’s position as the top international airport in the world for a record ten years.

DXB’s steadfast dedication to operational excellence has established new standards and solidified its standing as a prominent player in the global aviation industry. All of the airport community‘s service partners as well as the larger aviation, travel, and tourism industries are responsible for DXB’s success.

According to ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira, the foreign segment accounted for the majority of air travel worldwide in 2023 due to factors like China’s openness and a growing desire for travel despite challenging macroeconomic conditions.

Notable changes have taken place, even though Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is still the busiest airport for passengers. While Tokyo Haneda International Airport had a spectacular rise from 16th place in 2022 to 5th place in 2023, Dubai International Airport soared to second rank for the first time. The airports in New Delhi and Istanbul continue to be among the best, showing notable improvement over 2019.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Memphis International Airport, and Hong Kong International Airport continue to rank first, second, and third in the world, respectively, in terms of cargo in international trade. Doha International Airport climbed back into the top 10, moving up to number 8 after increasing 6.3% in 2019.
