In the upcoming days, Sydney is predicted to get a lot of rain, which might result in flash flooding, flooded rivers, and Warragamba Dam spilling.

It is predicted that the rain will start tonight, pick up speed on Friday, and then subside on Saturday, with a possible 200mm of rain falling across the greater Sydney area. The Sydney metropolitan area and the southern Hunter region may see flash floods as a result of the heavy rainfall.

With localized rainfall ranging from 90 to 150 mm, with the possibility of 220 mm, the BoM warns of possible flash flooding between the Blue Mountains and Moruya on Friday night and Saturday early.

The city’s water supply, Warragamba Dam, may burst in the next several days if precipitation levels meet the high projections. The dam is now 96% full. Sydney’s many rivers could flood starting on Friday, and the South East SES of New South Wales has advised nearby residents to remain vigilant.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, there is a chance of significant flooding in the west of the city starting on Friday, while there is a risk of moderate flooding in the northwest, along the Colo River. Among those who might be impacted include the areas of Penrith, Liverpool, and Camden.

Beginning on Friday, flooding is also possible in the Cooks River in the inner west and the Georges and Woronora Rivers in the south of the city.
