Now SC Oversees Selection Committee Formation for DERC Appointments

  • The DERC was instructed by the Supreme Court to establish a Selection Committee to appoint two pro tem members.
  • Justice Jayant Nath is the new acting head of the DENR.
  • It is mandatory for the selection committee to propose two candidates per position.

On Monday, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) was instructed by the Supreme Court to establish a Selection Committee to appoint two pro tem members.

APTEL Chairman Justice (retd.) Ramesh Ranganathan, Justice (retd.) Jayant Nath, the current pro tem chairman, and Justice (retd.) Asha Menon will make up the Selection Committee, the apex court said, according to ANI.

DERC Appointments

Justice Jayant Nath is the new acting head of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), having been appointed by the Delhi High Court (DENC).

It is mandatory for the selection committee to propose two candidates per position, preferably in less than a month, based on their qualifications, moral character, and subject matter expertise.

The appointment will be made after the names are forwarded to the Chief Minister of Delhi and the Lieutenant Governor (LG). It is permitted for the panel to create its own appointment process.

The committee will receive secretarial support from the GNCTD, and the names will be forwarded to the Chief Minister of Delhi and the LG.
