India has been the most dominant nation in the ongoing Asian Para Games. The country has won 36 medals overall, including two double podium finishes in the javelin throw after just two days of competition. India won Bronze, while competitor Sumit Antil broke his world record to win Gold in the F64 event.

On the third day of the Asian Para Games, Pushpendra Singh and Sumit Antil gave India a lucky start by winning the gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the men’s F64 javelin throw competition.

With a throw of 73.29 meters, Antil not only won the gold but also shattered the record set by himself. Antil’s first throw was 66.22 meters; he improved it to 70.48 meters on his second try, and on his third attempt, he broke the record to win the gold.

Antil set a previous world record for the distance thrown at the Para World Championships earlier this year, covering 70.83 meters. Antil also broke the Games record, having done so with a 56.29-meter throw in 2018.

Antil qualified for the Paralympics for the second time in a row and will compete in Paris in the following year after finishing first in Hangzhou to earn automatic qualification.

With a throw of 62.06 meters, Pushpendra Singh, another Indian competitor in the event, won the bronze medal, and Sandeep, with a throw of 61.84 meters, finished outside the medal spots.

Track and field athletes who have no limbs at all or who are only slightly affected in one or both legs are eligible for the F64 event.

With these two medals, India now has 36 total—10 Gold, 12 Silver, and 14 Bronze. India won 17 medals on the first day of competition at the Asian Para Games 2023, and they repeated the feat on the second day.

After achieving a remarkable feat of 107 medals in the Asian Games a few weeks ago, India is aiming for its best-ever haul in the Para Games in Asia with a record 303 athletes.
