Microsoft intends to introduce an AI processor

  • Microsoft is speculated to release a new AI chip with the codename “Athena.”
  • The NVIDIA H100 GPU will be up against the chip, according to expectations.
  • Google and Amazon are also focusing on creating their own AI chips.

To cut expenses and its reliance on Nvidia technology, Microsoft is speculated to release a new AI chip with the codename “Athena.”

The NVIDIA H100 GPU, which Microsoft and other cloud providers are presently using, will be up against the chip, according to expectations.

The chip is anticipated to be presented between November 14 and 17 at Microsoft’s Ignite conference. The lack of Nvidia GPUs and rising demand for them led to the move.

Because OpenAI has Microsoft as a sponsor and is said to be exploring the possibility of creating its own AI chips, the program may present new opportunities for Microsoft.

Microsoft might be able to lower expenses and boost cloud service chip performance by creating a new AI chip. According to reports, Google and Amazon are also focusing on creating their own AI chips, which will help the market for AI chips grow.

The business has not yet confirmed the new AI chip’s introduction date, although it may go on sale the following month.
