Thursday is the Last Day for Chemical Fertilizer Spreading

  • Zone A: Carlow, Plug, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow;
  • Zone B: Clare, Galway, Kerry, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Roscommon, Sligo, Westmeath;
  • Zone C: Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim.

The shut period for the use of substance manure (nitrogen N and phosphorous P) will start on Friday, September 15, as the cutoff time is quickly drawing closer for certain ranchers.

With tomorrow Thursday, September 14 being the last day for compound manure spreading, on the off chance that compost stocks are held on-ranch after the cutoff time, they should be recorded on the Division of Farming, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) public Manure Data set as ‘shutting stocks’.

Last Day for Chemical Fertilizer Spreading

While the September 15 cutoff time applies to all, ranchers should likewise know that the disallowed period for the spreading of substance manure has been stretched out the following spring, contingent upon the zone they are in.

Ranches situated in ‘Zone A’, can’t have any significant bearing substance manure until the cutoff time closes on January 26, permitting them to spread on January 27.

The earliest date when ranchers in ‘Zone B’ can spread is January 30.

Likewise, ranchers situated in the ‘Zone C’ areas can’t spread substance manures containing N or P until the season opens on February 15, 2024.

In the meantime, ranchers should have farmstead excrement applied before November 1, as this is the point at which the restricted period for barnyard fertilizer spreading comes into force.

Ranches that are under 130kg of natural N can diminish capacity prerequisites by outwintering stock – ranches over 130kg can’t.

From October 2022 to June 2023, a sum of 935,423t of compost was sold, comprising 379,075t of straight manure and 556,348t of compound manure.

The all-out figure is down 15.43% on the absolute figure for the 2021/2022 factual year, which was 1,106,109t.

The joined deals for compost containing N were 909,156t, a diminishing of 15.78% for a similar figure for the 3/4 to June 2022.
