  • Gauff’s triumph in the US Open 2023 was a memorable occasion for her.

Aryna Sabalenka was defeated by American prodigy Coco Gauff, 19, in a gripping 2-6 6-3 6-2 encounter to claim the US Open title. Since Serena Williams in 1999, no American adolescent has won at Flushing Meadows before this victory.

Sabalenka, who will take over as the new world number one, has had a solid year, winning the Australian Open and making it to the semifinals of Wimbledon and Paris. However, Gauff’s victory over Sabalenka created a huge hole in American tennis.

US Open final 2023

Following a year in which Sabalenka won the Australian Open and advanced to the Wimbledon and Paris semifinals, she will take over as the new world number one on Monday.

Although the 25-year-old Belarussian had previously put herself in a position to win her second grand slam title, Gauff’s triumph in the US Open 2023 was a memorable occasion for her.

Gauff began her professional career in 2018 on the ITF circuit. She won her first WTA singles championship there in 2019. She gained notoriety when, as a qualifier, she advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon.

She and Caty McNally also won two doubles crowns. In 2020, Gauff advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open and made his maiden appearance inside the top 50 in the global rankings.

Gauff triumphed in Washington, D.C., in the run-up to the US Open, and at the Cincinnati Open, where she won her biggest career championship to date.
