After English language training the next month, the US will start training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets in October.
Numerous pilots and a sizable number of aircraft maintenance personnel will participate in the training, which will take place at the Morris Air National Guard installation in Tucson, Arizona.
F-16 fighter jets
In response to Ukraine’s long-standing request for F-16s to bolster air defenses and support its counteroffensive against Russia‘s 2022 invasion, Denmark and the Netherlands have agreed to send them.
Jonas Gahr Store, the prime minister of Norway, has also promised to deliver Ukraine F-16s. Along with 65 individuals who will receive training in repairing and servicing the aircraft, Denmark has started teaching eight Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16s.
To field F-16 squadrons, US military sources emphasize that they must undergo years of training, which limits the immediate impact the aircraft will have on Ukraine’s security.
Ukraine has frequently requested F-16s from its Western partners, a request that US President Joe Biden supported in May.
For seasoned pilots, F-16 training might last five months and include fundamentals like formation flying, using weapons, engaging in air combat, and disabling air defense systems.
