Chelsea player is acquired by Liverpool in a £60 million deal

  • Chelsea, Liverpool vying for Romeo Lavia; Reds exploring £60 million strike deal.
  • Liverpool and Southampton reach a £115 million deal for Moises Caicedo.
  • Transfer window starts June 14, and ends September 1.

Chelsea and Liverpool are vying for Romeo Lavia, and the Reds are exploring a £60 million strike deal.

Chelsea and Southampton were close to coming to a deal, but Liverpool beat them to the Brighton transfer of Moises Caicedo. Chelsea, who had been in close talks with Southampton, is still pursuing the Lavia deal.

A £60 million deal

A deal worth a British record £115 million for Moises Caicedo has been reached by Liverpool and Southampton. Caicedo, who had a £111 million offer accepted, informed Liverpool that he would be joining Chelsea, hence Liverpool missed out on him.

Lavia, a 19-year-old player, was valued at £50 million by Southampton, but Chelsea made a £48 million offer. Chelsea wants to sign two midfielders, and last week, negotiations with Leeds United to sign Tyler Adams fell through.

Lavia, a member of the Belgian national team, joined Southampton last summer from Manchester City and has four years remaining on his deal. After Saints were demoted from the Premier League last season, he is anticipated to leave.

Lavia did not sit on the bench as Southampton defeated Sheffield Wednesday, and he was not selected for either the 4-4 tie with Norwich or the Carabao Cup losses at Gillingham.

The transfer window begins on June 14 and concludes at midnight in Scotland and 11 p.m. in England on September 1. Sky Sports’ dedicated Transfer Centre blog and Sky Sports News are great resources for staying current on transfer news and rumors.
