Japan spends 20% more on the summer vacations

Even though the cost of living in Japan has increased, a recent survey reveals that people are budgeting more for their summer vacations this year.

Over 2,500 people countrywide participated in a poll that was performed by the private research company Intage.

Japan’s summer vacations

It was discovered that the average amount spent per person on scheduled summer vacations has increased by 20% year over year to 60,146 yen, or roughly $425.

More respondents said they intended to travel this year, whether it be domestically or internationally.

  • Japan’s living costs rise, and summer vacation budgets rise.
  • Average summer vacation spending rises 20% to $425.
  • People cut transportation costs, and focus on local specialties.

The survey requested justifications for a larger budget. Many persons claimed that, as a result of the coronavirus, they no longer feel the need to limit their activities.

“It seems like people are trying to cut their transportation costs, and spend more on food or local specialties at their destination instead,” says Tanaka Hiromasa, Director of Intage’s Consumer Research Center.

Some responses mentioned how inflation has affected their budget by driving up the price of gas, for example.
