According to V Muraleedharan, the minister of state for external affairs, there are now nine million Indians living in the Arab world.

While kicking off the sixth India-Arab Partnership Conference in New Delhi, the Minister announced that India’s trade with Arab nations has surpassed $240 billion.

The meeting is the result of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Arab League and India that was initially signed in December 2008 and has since been periodically renewed. A Forum for Arab-Indian Cooperation was created by the Memorandum.

Alternating between India and an Arab nation, the India-Arab Partnership Conference is held. Ministers, high-ranking officials, and businesspeople from India and the Arab world attend.

This year’s conference was centered around “New Horizons in Investment, Trade, and Services.” The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Arab Businessmen, and the Union of Arab Chambers joined forces this year to support the event, which was organized by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the General Secretariat of the Arab League.

India-Arab relations, according to Muraleedharan, “have stood the test of time.” Trade between India and the Arab world grew despite the recent pandemic and international geopolitical crises. About 60% of India’s imports of crude oil and more than 50% of its imports of fertilizers and related goods come from this region, making our alliance strong and essential.

He claimed that throughout many generations, India’s sizable expatriate population in the Arab world has aided in the development of the nations where they live and call their adopted homes.

Entrepreneurship, scientific and technological cooperation, environmental preservation, and a stronger emphasis on food and energy security are now providing a fresh drive to our economic involvement, the Minister said.
