Congress Rejects Sudhakaran’s Offer to Resign as President of the KPCC

After being detained in a cheating case by the Crime Branch division of the Kerala Police, K Sudhakaran, the Kannur strongman of the Kerala Congress Party, made the offer to resign as KPCC chairman if necessary.

The Congress leader emphasised his innocence in the matter while also expressing his desire to resign. V D Satheesan, the leader of the opposition in the Assembly, made it clear that Sudhakaran would not be demoted and would receive all of his political and legal assistance in order to handle the matter.

The UDF and the Congress party are in agreement on the situation and would support Sudhakaran tenaciously. The Congress leader also mentioned that a number of high-ranking police officers had also visited Mavunkal’s apartment and questioned how many policemen had been detained during their visits.

The CPI(M)-led LDF government’s corruption would be made public through a series of agitations led by the Congress-led UDF. On July 4, the KPCC would plan demonstrations at district police headquarters throughout the state.

State secretary of the CPI(M), M. V. Govindan, denied that Sudhakaran’s detention was motivated politically and stated that there was substantial evidence against him in the matter of cheating.

The narrative that the case was politically driven won’t be believed by the state’s citizens, he claimed. Following several hours of questioning by the Crime Branch, Sudhakaran was taken into custody.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, was harshly criticised by the national leadership of the Congress for having a “fascist attitude” and imprisoning individuals who opposed his administration. Later, members of the Congress and Youth Congress demonstrated against Sudhakaran’s detention.
