Tigers Participate in the ACC Championship’s Preliminary Round

On Friday, May 12, on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Clemson Tigers finished third in four of their five races during the preliminary round of the 2023 ACC Championship. 

Head Coach Stephen Frazier Wong remarked, “We have four of the five boats qualified for the Grand Finals and are looking forward to some terrific racing tomorrow. “Our Varsity Four battled valiantly to try to qualify but just missed out due to some injury issues.”

Preliminary Round

Clemson came in third with a time of 7:00.674, beginning with the three varsity eights at 8:05 a.m. The Tigers then competed in the 1v8 and 2v8 races, finishing third in both with respective times of 6:41.016 and 6:51.124.

The 1v4 and 2v4 races then brought the preliminary round to a close. In the 1v4 race, the Tigers came in fourth at 7:40.845, while in the 2v4 race, they came in third at 7:39.217.

The 1v8, 2v8, 3v8, and 2v4 teams from Clemson will participate in the ACC Championship finals tomorrow, starting with the 3v8s at 8:15 a.m. and finishing with the 1v8s at 9:55 a.m. For each of the four races, the Tigers will start in lane 6.
