Albanese’s Big Pitch: Housing, Tax Relief and a Westward Focus

  • $10bn pledge to build 100,000 homes for first home buyers
  • New $1,000 automatic tax deduction for all workers
  • Labor zeroes in on Western Australia as key election battleground

Anthony Albanese’s 2025 campaign launch in Perth put housing at the heart of Labor’s vision. He announced a massive $10 billion investment to create 100,000 homes targeted solely at first home buyers.

Albanese also announced a surprise $1,000 tax deduction for all workers, removing the need for receipts or paperwork. This move simplifies the tax process for millions, particularly those who currently miss out on claiming legitimate deductions.

Labor Targets WA and Working Families in Election Pitch

Western Australia once again played a starring role in Labor’s national campaign strategy. Launching in Perth for the second consecutive election, Albanese signaled the importance of WA seats. The new opportunities like the Bullwinkel electorate were highlighted. Local leaders were praised for maintaining campaign momentum from the recent state election.

Labor didn’t shy away from drawing a stark contrast with Opposition Leader Peter Dutton. Albanese accused the Coalition of mimicking Trump-style politics and warned against the “Americanisation” of Australia’s health system. Subtle but pointed, these criticisms aimed to portray Dutton as divisive and out of touch.

A personal tone underpinned the event, with Albanese’s fiancée Jodie Haydon and son Nathan joining him on stage. Their presence reinforced the PM’s image as a grounded, relatable leader focused on families and stability. Former PM Julia Gillard’s appearance added gravitas and emotional weight to the launch.

Labor’s promise of simplicity – from housing access to tax deductions – was designed to cut through political fatigue. It offered voters practical, tangible benefits. The launch also emphasized a united front, with senior party figures like Penny Wong and Jim Chalmers showing a cohesive team ready to govern again.

Albanese’s campaign launch was more than a policy reveal. It was a strategic, emotional, and pointed case for why Labor deserves a second term, with WA as the linchpin.

“We want Australians to be able to afford a home where they want to live – close to their family, friends, work and community.” – Anthony Albanese
